Liposuction is done on an outpatient basis. An anesthetic fluid is infused into the fatty areas, to allow better visualization, evenness of suction and minimize bleeding, known as the "Tumescent technique". Small suction cannulas are inserted through pin-hole sized incisions placed in inconspicuous locations near the fat deposits, and excess fat is removed completely under local anesthesia. With this well-studied technique, patients are fully anesthetised, relaxed and able to participate and direct in the contouring and degree of sculpturing obtained. Patients can... speed their recovery time with lymphatic massage sessions
The duration of the procedure depends on the location and amount of fat in each area. The patient is sent home with a compression garment covering the treated areas. Compression is advised for about a month as it helps reduce swelling after liposuction. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication and patients are able to go back to work in 1 to 2 weeks. Bruising and swelling usually subside in 2 to 4 weeks. Patients can further opt to improve and speed their recovery time with lymphatic massage sessions performed by nurse practitioner and certified clinical massage therapist, Ms. Johnetta Miner. During this time patients are allowed to resume their sporting activities as tolerated. The final result takes shape over 2 to 3 months.
Liposuction of the abdomen, back, hips flanks and thighs can be used as adjunct procedures to any of the LVR or DLV procedures.
The specific risks and the suitability of liposuction for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are rare.
